Colombia

Institutional Framework

Colombia does not have a permanent body in charge of population and development issues; however, it has established a permanent inter-institutional coordination mechanism for the implementation and follow-up of the Montevideo Consensus, called the Inter-institutional Population Roundtable. The body provisionally in charge of coordinating this mechanism is the National Statistics Department (DANE), which reports directly to the Presidency of the Republic. The Roundtable is made up of eight State bodies with competence on the different topics of the Consensus. However, the composition of the Rountable reflects the prioritization of some specific topics, such as migration, as well as sexual and reproductive health.

In addition, the coordination mechanism's cross-cutting approaches include focus on the post-conflict peace process, as well as the country's stance on international cooperation agendas.

Participation

Currently, there is no mechanism in the Colombian system for the participation of civil society in this process.

The information on Institutionality comes from the regional survey for the update of the Virtual Platform for the follow-up of the Montevideo Consensus on Population and Development, implemented by the technical secretariat in 2023.
