Institutional Framework

According to Chilean law, there is no state body in charge of population and development issues. However, the Montevideo Consensus National Coordinating Committee (CCNCM) has been established as a permanent coordination mechanism for the implementation and follow-up of the regional agreement. The coordination of the CCNCM is provisionally delegated to the National Statistics Institute (INE), which is assisted in this task by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Fourteen other ministries are part of the CCNCM and participate on an equal basis in their respective areas of competence: Ministry of Social Development and Family; Ministry of National Assets; Ministry of Economy, Development and Tourism; Ministry of Education; Ministry of Finance; Ministry of the Interior and Public Security; Ministry of Justice and Human Rights; Ministry of Environment; Ministry of Women and Gender Equity; Ministry of Public Works; Ministry of Health; Ministry of Labor and Social Security; Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications; Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning.

Participation

Chile does not have an explicit definition of the mechanisms that guarantee the participation of civil society in the population and development institutional framework that follows up on the implementation of the Montevideo Consensus in the country.

The information on Institutionality comes from the regional survey for the update of the Virtual Platform for the follow-up of the Montevideo Consensus on Population and Development, implemented by the technical secretariat in 2023.
