The Ministry of Justice and Police in the Republic of Suriname is responsible, among other things, for the enforcement of fundamental human rights and freedoms, social legal assistance, policy regarding detainees, internal state security and the maintenance of public order and peace. Simply put, it means that the ministry ensures that everyone in the country can live freely without his or her rights being violated. In addition, persons who need it should have access to free legal assistance. The ministry is also responsible for housing detainees and preparing these individuals for return to the community. These are just some of the tasks of the Ministry of Justice and Police.
