Office of women and children policy (BVK)

The Office of Women and Children Policy (abbreviated as BVK) was established on March 8, 2007 with the aim of coordinating policy regarding women and children within the Ministry of Justice and Police.
BVK falls directly under the Minister, due to the nature of the office's activities, which cover the entire Ministry of Justice and Police.

The job description of BVK is included in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Suriname 2008 no. 137 and is as follows

Developing policy in the field of women and children;

Developing an action plan for women and children policy for the Ministry of Justice and Police;

Coordinating women and children policy to all relevant departments within the Ministry of Justice and Police;

Working intensively with all Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) that have women and children as their target group;

The point of contact for women and children's issues within the Ministry of Justice and Police;

Coordinating the treaty obligations where applicable within the Ministry of Justice and Police;

Ensuring the implementation of the specific focuses of the sector analysis, such as domestic violence;

Participating in national and international seminars;

Organizing training for the target groups;

Organizing awareness programs (nationally).

Objetivo general

In practice, the Women's and Children's Policy Office coordinates not only the women's and children's policy, as included in the objectives and tasks, but also the gender and youth policy within the Ministry of Justice and Police. The work from this office is carried out on a project basis.
